Perennial borders modern impressionist style

July 4th, 2010

It was important to add colour to this garden to further add to its beautiful existing static features. Here it’s the summer house lit up behind the perennials of the new rock bed. I’ve used Penstemon and geranium, plus Asters and Gerbera. I studied the gardens of the impressionists to get some ideas about colour combinations, it’s important to be inspired by other artists and gardens as a foundation for your work. The bed was raised in a dome and the landscaper created a soakaway with land drains beneath as this was a wet site, especially over the last two proceeding Summers.

I feel we have achieved a wonderful effect, achieving an excellent vista from the house so that the garden can be enjoyed inside and out.
