Raised bed, Darras Road, Ponteland

January 6th, 2015

This was a lovely project. The client has a beautiful property with a long driveway. Beyond the entrance gates the architects had created a raised bed, which was to be split into a pool and a perennial bed. We planted a combination of Lupins, monardas and penstemon and ran a visual border edge with small hebe. Spacing between plants is an interesting topic, as most borders are planned to reach a peak in 2-5 years but you obviously want everything to look very good immediately. The perennials will spread outwards and grow stronger as seasons pass and this makes gardening addictive as you witness developments as time passes. During this project the weather was sensational for England and we finished on a Summer’s night at 6.30, it was memorable.
